National award for inspiring local woman

WOMEN in Swan Hill are among those who have been recognised as part of International Women’s Day, celebrated across the world yesterday.

With a theme ‘make it happen’, it aimed to raise awareness of gender equality and women’s achievements across the world.

Swan Hill’s Sarah Sammon, co-founder of Australia’s first rose petal farm, took out an inaugural national award for women in business.

The Veuve Clicquot New Generation Award, part of a global initiative, recognises the success and vision of up-and-coming, entrepreneurial business women aged between 25 and 39 years old.

Ms Sammon was recognised “as the young female entrepreneur who best reflects Madame Clicquot’s values of innovation, audacity and fearlessness”.

Co-founding Simply Rose Petal’s with her mother, Jan Slater, in mid-2004, it was to be Australia’s first rose petal farm. Since then, Ms Sammon and the rose farm on the banks of the Murray River has gone from strength to strength.
