Shooting victim refusing to co-operate

PARTIES involved in an alleged shooting near Swan Hill last weekend are not co-operating with investigators, police have said.

Emergency services were called to a home on Swan Hill Road, Murray Downs about 5.40pm on Saturday, following reports a man had allegedly suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

The Swan Hill bridge was closed to traffic for about two hours.

The 37-year-old man — originally reported to be 39-years-old — was treated at the scene before being taken by paramedics to Swan Hill District Health.

But police said the man left hospital soon after arriving and was allegedly involved in a police pursuit about 7pm.

The unregistered vehicle the 37-year-old man was allegedly driving was followed along McCallum Street towards the bridge, before police abandoned the pursuit and the vehicle travelled in to New South Wales.

Deniliquin Local Area Command Detective Inspector Peter Hayes said investigations into the incident had been hampered due to a lack of cooperation and clarity of events from those involved.
