Local job agencies expand

EXPANSION is on the cards for a handful of Swan Hill’s employment providers, following an overhaul to the Commonwealth Government’s job seeking scheme.

From July 1 this year, the $5 billion ‘jobactive’ service will take effect.

Taking over from the previous Labor Government’s Job Services Australia, it will address the needs of job seekers and employers across the nation.

Eworks Employment Solutions, MADEC Australia, MAX Employment and Western District Employment Access (WDEA) will deliver the jobactive scheme in the Wimmera Mallee — which includes Swan Hill.

Further, MADEC will administer jobactive’s harvest labour scheme in the Swan Hill and Gannawarra council areas.

Both Eworks and WDEA have indicated future expansion in the Mallee as a result of the new model.

In the 2013-14 year, Eworks estimates about they had about 800 jobseekers on their books, that figure is estimated to increase to 6000 across northern Victoria.

With the Wimmera Mallee area covering much of Victoria’s west, it will see Eworks expand to Mildura, Horsham, Ballarat and St Arnaud, among others.
