PRIME real estate at the northern entrance to Swan Hill is set to hit the market.
This follows a decision from Swan Hill Rural City Council to sell a block of land overlooking Nyah Road and adjoining the Swan Hill Regional Livestock Exchange (SHRLE).
On Tuesday, councillors approved the use of funds from the sale of 14,000 square metres of “surplus” land at the SHRLE to be put towards upgrades at the facility.
The land is yet to be valued, but SHRCC saleyards manager Pat Ahern said it was expected to be hot property.
“There certainly appears to be [interest],” he said.
“The majority of it is vacant land, there is a small storage shed and some pens there, but they don’t amount to many, about four percent of the sheep selling area.”
This equated to 22 pens of the 500 in total.
According to a report to councillors, “activities at the Livestock Exchange have significant personal injury risks due to the unpredictable nature of livestock as well as old or inadequately designed infrastructure. Planned improvements will address, and eliminate or minimise these risks”.
