FRESH faces at Swan Hill’s May bowls carnival this week represent growth in the annual tournament and the sport itself.
Inverloch’s Janis Parks and Koo Wee Rup’s Wendy Pownall have been bowling for four and three seasons respectively, with each taking to the greens at Swan Hill for this year’s May carnival for the first time.
Pownall said her husband and her had learned of the May carnival by word of mouth.
“My husband was flipping around the internet and we found [a tournament at] Irymple and at that we heard about Swan Hill,” she said.
Despite some early mixed results, Pownall said they had enjoyed their time in Swan Hill so far.
“We love it, the greens are fabulous. We lost our first game and won the next two,” she said.
Parks teamed up with San Remo’s Robyn Dennis to take out the runners-up prize in the ladies pairs on Monday.
Their first visit to Swan Hill has proved fruitful after recent visits to Mildura, Echuca and Moama.
