Moulamein RSL push

RESIDENTS in Moulamein are looking to restart a local RSL Sub Branch after theirs closed down more than a decade ago.

Organisers of the town’s centenary Anzac Day commemorations took down 64 names of people who would support a move to get a reinvigorated local RSL chapter back up and running.

One of the organisers, Moulamein local Alan Davies, said there would need to be 30 or 40 committed members to start up the sub branch.

“We want to have some say around town when we do things,” Mr Davies said.

“One of the original cenotaphs has been moved away and we want to move it back.”

Moulamein’s last RSL Sub Branch closed down in the early 2000s due to lack of membership.

Anzac Day services were also halted, but they resumed three years ago following a conversation Mr Davies had with a few friends over a few beers at the local pub.

Since then, the turnout to the main Anzac Day service in Moulamein has grown from 40 to between 400 and 500 people, according to Mr Davies.
