Blues win nail-biter

A NAIL-BITING A Grade netball clash on Saturday ended with Kerang snagging a seven-goal victory over Lake Boga.

Blues coach Annie Coobs said while the end result was positive for her team, the dreams of a bigger score eluded them this week.

“It probably was not one of our best games of netball,” Coobs said.

“Four points is what we want but it’s going to be really close in the top five so we really need the percentage in case it gets down to a percentage placing.”

The Wright sisters performed to their usual high standards in the goal circle and Tahni Clark put in an impressive effort in Wing Defence.

“She just put a lot of pressure on the ball on the defensive end,” said Coobs.

The Magpies were also aggressive on defence, putting a lot of pressure on Kerang’s shooters.

Coombs said the game was heavily interrupted which meant both teams struggled to hit their stride.

“There were a lot of tiny contests that probably should have been let go,” Said Coobs.

Play stopped and started a lot at both ends.”

The Blues will looking for less stoppages when they face off against Tyntynder next weekend and Coobs said training this week will be foccussed on playing a much more streamlined game.

“We’re playing cross court too much. By not looking down the court we’re hindering our chance to get the ball into the ring,” she explained.

“We need to make sure we look down, not cross court for those passes so we can feed into the ring.”

The young team from Kerang are now sitting pretty at number four on the ladder and Coobs said she hopes the weekend’s win will help build confidence within some of her younger players.
