Back to basics for the Swans

SWAN Hill will look to get back to basics when it takes on Mallee Eagles at the showgrounds tomorrow.

The Swans suffered a 164-point mauling at Manangatang last week but no changes are likely as the side prepares to don pink jumpers to raise money for local cancer support.

Coach Callan Beasy said tomorrow’s game was about getting back to basics.

“We’re pretty keen to bounce back from the weekend we’ve just produced,” he said.

“It was a substandard effort. Some of the younger blokes will have a chance to redeem themselves this weekend.”

Beasy said the Swans would look to play their game tomorrow.

“We’re not concerned about match-ups we just want to get back to a half-positive situation,” he said.

Swans president Alistair Ward said the Pink Day was organised to support local cancer support networks, while the proceeds of the gate would be donated to the Jaron Bennett Appeal.

He said Bennett’s club, the Mallee Eagles, had supported the Swans in last year’s appeal for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma sufferer Kelsey McCoy.

“It’s about supporting the wider community in general, it was a good gesture ((last year)) and we like to show that support back,” Ward said.

The seniors, reserves and Under 16s will all wear pink jumpers, which have attracted additional sponsorship and will be sold off or purchased by players and supporters with funds raised going to the local cancer support group.

Swan Hill will look to get back to basics tomorrow, but the Swans face a team that has only lost once this season.

Don’t underestimate the Eagles. They’ve recruited a key goalkicker in Caine Hillier, who has kicked 22 goals in five games, while the likes of ruckman Warren Carlyle and mid Marty Kelly are having good years.

They should be able to get the job done tomorrow.
