Proposed Boga path making waves

A PROPOSED path around the Lake Boga foreshore is proving contentious among some residents and community groups.

As an extension of the existing active walking path, the new section of the path will connect the Lake Boga Yacht Club to the Lake Boga Caravan Park, incorporating a shared pedestrian and traffic zone along East Lake Road.

The original proposal saw the path running across the middle of the grassy lawn in front of the Lake Boga Yacht Club –– grass which had been cultivated to protect the fragile yacht masts during meets.

The Guardian understands that due to subsequent consultations between club members and council, the path will now run alongside the Yacht Club building.

Private landholders were also consulted, such as Lake Boga resident Terry Fisher, whose house backs onto the foreshore where the proposed pathway will run.

“I don’t particularly want a path, but if it’s going to happen it’s going to happen,” Mr Fisher said.

“I’m not totally opposed to it, but I would want to have some say of where it goes and what its constructed of.

“There has been talk of asphalt, but I would prefer concrete.”

In his submission to council, Mr Fisher suggested that a board walk could take the place of the path.

Last Friday was the last day to submit feedback for the project, and council’s economic and community development manager Steve Matthews said all responses will now be collated, and decisions made whether to alter the draft plan as it currently stands.
