Intersection upgrades running on schedule

UPGRADES to Swan Hill’s busiest intersection are on track to reach completion towards the end of August, with VicRoads Regional Director Mal Kersting saying he is “pleased with the progress”.

Currently, 10 lanes of traffic meet at the intersection of Campbell and McCallum streets and it is hoped that the addition of six extra lanes, accommodated for by the removal of 18 car park spaces, will improve traffic flow.

Traffic signals will be installed on every corner and vehicles entering the intersection from all directions will now have three options — a left hand turning lane, a through lane and a right hand turning lane.

Council has led the charge in the removal of fourteen trees in the area — 10 bottle trees were relocated to Curlewis Street in May and four takaroo trees have also been removed.

Two have been relocated nearby to a park on McPherson Street, while the other two were taken to Robinvale and replanted in Perrin Street.

Mr Kersting thanked the Swan Hill public for cooperating with the changed traffic conditions.

“We are particularly grateful to the local community for their patience while these important improvement works are being carried out,” he said.

The project plans are currently on display in the foyer of council’s main office on Splatt Street and will remain for public viewing over the next two weeks.
