Thurwood’s day to remember

MAREE Thurwood had a day to remember at Murray Downs on Wednesday, when her tee shot found the cup on the 151m second hole.

Teams of four competed in a variation of the ambrose format.

Each player hit their second and subsequent shots from a chosen drive and scored stableford points with Thurwood’s team of Carol Wiseman, Sue Davis and Anne Weekley all scoring five points on the hole.

These points contributed to their overall score of 129 points to take the title of the Mallee Tyres Ambrose champions.

Shelley Wilkins, Kate Lochery, Maralyn Morrison and Lyn Merrett scored 119 points to take second place prizes. Mary-Anne Davis combined with her protégées Barb Upton, Jenny White and Virginia Allen to take third place with 111 points.

The teams of Sheila Beard, Marj Elston, Jill Pattenden and Elaine Brown — 109 points — and Eilleen Willox, Brenda Monk, Pat Cadwallader and Jill Brown were ball winners with the NTPs going to Maree Thurwood, Anne Weekley and Barb Upton. Carol Wiseman (23) scored 34 points to win Saturday’s stableford event on a countback from Anne Webb (27).

Nona Wilson and Bev Boys — both 32 points — were next best with Anne Webb and Barb Clark taking out the NTP prizes.
