Ride in Swan Hill

THE Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Ride for Sick Kids stopped off in Swan Hill for the first time since the event began in 2011 on Sunday.

This year’s ride, aimed at raising funds for RMHC programs in Victoria, began in Mildura on Sunday morning with the first leg finishing in Swan Hill, 220km later.

The crew then rode from Kerang to Echuca on Monday and will finish up in Wodonga today.

Ride for Sick Kids committee chairman Brett Tooley said the ride had raised $1.7 million since its inception in 2011, and he was hoping to raise that number to $2.5 million by the end of this year’s.

“We had a function last night on a paddle steamer in Mildura and raised $38,000 for the charity and tonight we’ve got another function here at Spoons,” Tooley said, upon reaching Swan Hill.

“The money goes direct to the two Ronald McDonald houses in Victoria, at Parkville at the Royal Children’s Hospital and at Monash.”

Among the riders was ex-AFL star Scott Cummings, who played for Essendon, Port Adelaide and the West Coast Eagles.

Tooley urged anyone interested in contributing to the effort to visit www.rideforsickkids.com.au

“We’d certainly appreciate whatever support we can get,” he said.
