Celebrating books

PRIMARY school students across the region delved into the pages of their favourite stories to celebrate Book Week last week.

This year’s theme, Books Light Up Our World, saw a multitude of literary characters come to life, including the ever-popular Roald Dahl and Dr Seuss creations, plus plenty of cowboys and fairies.

St Mary’s Primary School students — including Maddy Coffey as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and Hugh Langley-Sheldrick as a mad scientist — converged on the gym for the annual Book Week parade, and classroom activities continued the bookish fun throughout the day.

St Mary’s library technician Lisa Anderson said the event highlighted the importance of reading, and was a chance for young students to engage with books in a new way.
