A SWAN Hill man has been left with a black eye and a couple of war wounds after coming under the attack of possibly one of the town’s most aggressive magpies at the weekend.
Norman Campbell was riding his bicycle along Campbell Street, between Wattie and Bath streets, around 4pm Saturday, when he was continually barraged by a frantic and protective magpie.
“I grabbed a stick and he swooped a second time clipping my ear with his beak,” he said.
“As I tried to ride away he came at me a third time and this time I lost my balance as I tried to wave my stick at him. I fell off my bike and took a very nasty fall.”
Mr Campbell landed on bitumen, causing a black eye, grazed leg, jarred wrist and a bruised chest from the handlebars turning 90 degrees and ramming into him.
Coupled with the ear cut he had previously received, Mr Campbell concedes that he probably came off second best.
