THE remaining board members of the Golden Rivers Football League have resigned from their posts to allow a newly-formed working party to investigate a number of “irregularities in governance practices”.
In a special meeting between the GRFL club presidents and AFL Central Murray Commission on Monday night, it was decided that a “structured process” was required to ensure the levels of governance needed for proper management.
Acting chairman Oscar Aertssen joined Brent Heitbaum and Glenn Hogan in tending their resignations.
It is the second group of board resignations to occur since mid-August, with former chairman Phil Symes leaving his role before the end of the season.
“Over the past few months of working closely with the GRFL board there was a number of irregularities in governance practises that needed to be addressed,” AFL Central Murray Chair Alan Mitchell said.
“The commission and staff will be heavily involved with the working party to ensure best practice governance standards are implemented within the league.”
The club presidents passed a motion providing authority to AFL Central Murray to ensure business continues as usual until any new governance structure is implemented.
“Until the working party finalises their responsibility there will be no further comment on the governance irregularities experienced, we are now focusing on getting the structure right that will allow the league to prosper into the future,” Mr Mitchell said.
