SWAN Hill police are urging drivers to take extra care on the roads after a Robinvale man was killed this week when his wife swerved to avoid a kangaroo north-west of Bendigo.
Police say the couple’s sedan slammed into a tree on Monday after swerving to avoid a kangaroo on the road.
The man, aged in his 30s, was trapped in the passenger seat of the vehicle and died at the scene, on the Calder Highway at Glenalbyn.
His 39-year-old wife was taken to Bendigo Base Hospital and was yesterday in a serious but stable condition.
Police have not released the identity of the man, except to reveal he and his wife were residents of Robinvale.
Acting Senior Sergeant Robin McDonald’s message to drivers in high risk kangaroo areas was simple: “never swerve”.
