Relay the message: Swan Hill keeps giving

PURPLE and proud to put their feet to the cause, almost 500 people turned out to do their bit for funding cancer research on Friday night.

The Swan Hill Relay For Life, held at Riverside Park, raised $41,548 thanks to the 489 playful purple people who put their time, effort and money in for the Cancer Council’s number one annual fund raising event.

“With just over $40,000 raised it is not quite as high as what we raised last year but with hospice fundraising going on through the year here in Swan Hill we are extremely pleased,” chair for Relay For Life Swan Hill Carol Knight said.

She said it was great to see the community be so generous, time and time again.

“We were hoping for $35,000 so to exceed that we are really happy.”

With 31 teams participating the relay was a huge success. Over 200 people signed up to the relay on the night helping to boost the numbers.

“One of the teams has already reached their goal, they were aiming for $5000,” Ms Knight said.

Swan Hill’s favourite team of volunteers, the Rapid Release Team, were in attendance.

“They’ve stepped in to do lots of the set up for us,” Ms Knight said.

With food, tea, and coffee available, and a set by Top Secret, the event was a roaring success.
