A 63-YEAR-OLD Swan Hill man was found drowned in the Edward River near Mallan, around 30km west of Moulamein, last week.
The man was deemed missing at 4.30pm Sunday, October 11, before his body was located by a friend at 5pm Tuesday, October 13.
The friend immediately contacted Deniliquin Local Area Command, whose duty officer, detectives and crime scene specialists rushed to the scene, removing the man’s body at 6.35pm.
Deniliquin Inspector Steve Worthington said the local area was a fishing spot and the man was known to frequent it to fish.
“The deceased person was located in shallow water and it appeared that he may have been tangled in some fishing rope in the water,” Insp Worthington said.
“At this stage the police are making inquiries in relation to the person’s previous medical history to provide information for the coroner.”
The death wasn’t being treated as suspicious.
