FOLLOWING roaring trade over the Market Day weekend local business owners have called for the annual event, which sees Campbell Street shut down to make way for a bustling marketplace, to take place twice a year.
Stores kept their doors open longer than the proposed 2pm closing time as a steady stream of punters enjoyed Saturday’s stellar weather, street performances, courtesy of the very successful Youth Arts Festival, and of course: epic sales.
Beardsley’s newsagency sold out of both the Herald Sun and The Age and Mint Soda’s Paula Starrs told The Guardian she recorded her two best trading days ever over the Friday and Saturday of the weekend.
“It was better than Christmas, it was amazing,” Ms Starrs said.
“Last year was good but it was even better this year.
“I would like to see Market Day on twice a year.”
