Meeting allays fears over Tooleybuc Bridge

MORE than 100 Tooleybuc community members attended a meeting with Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) on Wednesday night to discuss the future of the new bridge over the Murray.

High on the discussion list was access to Murray Street, the main street in the small riverside village.

“Our biggest fear at the start was that there wasn’t going to be an intersection at Murray Street,” local business owner Phil Caccaviello said.

He said that over the course of the night it was made clear that access to Murray Street would be a priority when RMS came to designing the bridge.

A spokesperson for RMS told The Guardian yesterday that the project team provided information at the meeting on work at the intersection at Murray Street which will allow for all turning movements and direct access to the shopping area.

“The community will be kept informed about the design of the intersection which aims to ensure ease of access between the highway and the shopping area for caravans,” RMS said in a statement yesterday.
