Another year done and dusted for local car club

SWAN HILL Sporting Car Club will go into 2016 with a boost after a big year in terms of success and club growth.

With an increase in members from around 20 to 80 and a raised profile due to sponsor supported advertisements across local newspapers, radio and social media, the club has experienced one of the biggest growth spurts in its history.

Club president Chris Gibson said the club was really happy with their growth over 2015.

“We have seen substantial growth in many areas including our facilities, our events and track management,” he said.

Some of the highlights include successfully holding two Victorian Club Auto Cross Series (VCAS) rounds, not cancelling a single round of racing on the yearly calendar, adding deep fryers to catering equipment and many display opportunities at local events.

“We have set up displays to promote the club and support local causes including the Quamby Tractor Pull, Swan Hill show, Lions Club’s Show and shine and a motorbike event in September,” Gibson said.

“We were also proud to have been involved with men’s mental health awareness and assisted to raise some money towards a resource being developed for local community.

“Our camper rates increased for events through us being able to provide shower facilities and we successfully attained a grant in partnership with the motorbike and 4×4 clubs to build a secure compound for storage.”

The club aims to propel itself to an A class venue for auto cross racing. Emergency lights were recently installed around the track increasing the tracks safety.

The club already has the benefit of being a twin track which allows drivers to progress through the pits twice as fast and they recently moved the starting area which has decreased pit wait times further.

The club also won a grant to develop juniors and as a result have been able to dedicate time to developing junior driving skills within the club.

“The club has really had a great year thanks to all our members and the support of volunteers spectators and sponsors,” Gibson said.
