WHILE Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) claims to be treating repairs to the Swan Hill bridge as a matter of urgency, there was no sign of activity at the bridge yesterday afternoon.
Last week the load limit for the bridge was reduced to 15 tonnes, disrupting the current harvest of grains and stone fruit across the region.
Local haulage companies were united in their dismay over the lack of urgency shown by RMS in getting the job done.
“It is affecting all of us,” Frank Capone, logistics and operations manager at Pearson’s Transport, said.
“Everyone uses the bridge at this time the year while harvest is on, it is about as bad as it could be.”
He said that while everyone in the transport business understood safety needed to come first he thought more could be done.
While the works are underway over the next three months, heavy vehicles are being detoured via the Nyah and Tooleybuc bridge.
