Nyah bowler destroys batsmen

RETURNING to your junior club will always be special, but one bowler had a homecoming to die for when he pulled his Nyah Districts whites on for the first time in five years.

Duane Bruton, 25, had not bowled a ball in competitive cricket for nearly eight months but was able to take six wickets and 13 maidens during his 22.3 over spell.

The effort will be seen by rival clubs as a resounding warning with Nyah on the hunt for a top four berth at the business end of the season.

Bruton told The Guardian once he had overcome early match doubts, the spoils flowed.

“I was a bit hesitant coming into it and didn’t bowl my best on the first drop but then the ball just came out nice,” he said.

“It was the first time I have bowled in six to eight months during cricket season and I just got a fair bowl on, I wasn’t feeling too bad.

“It was a homecoming for me. It was good and the boys were rapt to see me back and hopefully I can get a few more wickets through the year.”

The bowler decided to leave the club and head for the Lakers before finding himself at RSL.

“It was good to get out and meet the other boys, get around them in the field and have a few good nights… it was good,” he said.

“I have grown up with cricket for most of my life and I love the camaraderie and getting around the team.

“Hopefully we get to finals this year, we are a good young crew and we want to pull together and get some wins on the board.”

Bruton and Nyah Districts will resume their match with Woorinen on Saturday.
