YOUNG people from Swan Hill and Kerang are set to experience a host of music and cultural events after grants were received for the 2016-18 FReeZA program.
The Andrews Labor Government has committed $73,500 and $58,800 to Swan Hill and Kerang respectively, with funds being used to host fully supervised drug, alcohol and smoke-free local events.
The aim is for young people to plan and develop an array of performing arts events for the community and in the process gain valuable experience.
The community as a whole will benefit from the free local events that are developed.
Swan Hill Rural City Council’s project will aim to increase the number of young people who have access to cultural and musical events.
This is aimed to reduce some of the stress involved with being a rural isolated adolescent by providing a safe social outlet.
Kane Sparks, youth support coordinator for Swan Hill Rural City Council, was delighted that the funds had been announced.
“It’s really great to know that we can plan events now that the FReeZa funding is confirmed for the next three years for Swan Hill,” he said.
“We have some ideas in development already and there will be some exciting times ahead.”
