Subdivision given the nod

ANOTHER Murray Downs subdivision was given the go-ahead this week, with the town now set to have 55 new residential lots opened up for development.

Wakool Shire Council this week approved an application to subdivide Lots 24 and 608 on Murray Downs Drive, owned by Murray Downs Pastoral Company — the original developer of Murray Downs.

The subdivision will create as many as 36 residential lots with associated infrastructure.

It was the second development approval for Murray Downs granted by council in the last two months, after it approved an application to subdivide land owned by Murray Downs Resort into 19 separate residential lots in September.

Both have come after Wakool Shire began pushing for increased development in Murray Downs, following a review of zoning in the area at the end of 2013.

With negotiations for both applications having taken several years (Murray Downs Pastoral Co’s first began in 1999, for instance), Wakool Shire Mayor Neil Gorey said it was good to finally reach both resolutions.

“From the council’s point of view, it was very frustrating to see it has taken so long for it to get to this stage,” Cr Gorey said.

“Hopefully the developer now will be able to proceed with the development and we’ll start to see new houses there.”
