Robinvale community hub boon

ROBINVALE P-12 College will proceed with plans to develop a new community hub following a $450,000 funding boost from the Victorian State Government.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education James Merlino visited the college on Wednesday to announce the funding, which will see the construction of a new early education learning centre and administration building.

The injection took overall funding for the project to $2.5 million — the amount needed to complete its first phase — and secures the school’s vision to develop a “community hub”.

The hub, funding for which has been contributed to by Swan Hill Rural City Council and Robinvale District Health Services among other community organisations, is aimed at offering a broad delivery of services to the wider community, particularly locals aged 24 years and under.

After touring the college, Mr Merlino said the proposed location for the new buildings fitted within the school’s vision to become a one-stop shop for servicing community needs.

“I was taken around the school, trying to get my bearings, and we got to the location of the early learning centre and what will hopefully be in the future a community and school library,” he said.

“The idea of having the front of the school facing that main street, facing the town, and importantly having one entry point, it’s symbolic in one way but it’s also practical as the school can engage with parents from when their children are at the very earliest stage,” he said.
