FOR a cool $3.9 million, you could own a chunk of the biggest retail sector in Swan Hill.
The block, currently occupied by The Reject Shop, Rockman’s and Dick Smiths is the largest single freehold retail building in the ‘Golden Block.’
Measuring a whopping 4757 square metres, the block provides frontage to all surrounding streets and will see an annual net return of $322,751.
Selling agent, and principal agent of Wood and Co, Brian Wood can’t get enough of the history of the block, which was formerly home to The Royal Hotel.
“The Royal took up the whole corner until about 1972,” he said.
“It then became Woolies — Swan Hill’s first supermarket.”
Woolworths retained the lease on the building through until 1985, when they moved to another Campbell Street location.
“They subleased the premises, and basically why they did that was to stop another supermarket moving in,” Mr Wood said.
There were a total of five titles created for the block, with this block being the largest, the others housing Café Allure and EB Games, amongst many others over the years.
