The scoop on the weather

SWAN Hill is in for a sizzler this weekend, with the mercury set to boil over — or at least hit 44 degrees.

Today will reach a whopping 42 degrees and locals have been advised by state government to take the proper precautions to beat the heat.

Tomorrow’s 44 degrees is well above the average temperature for December (30.1 degrees) and closing in on the record monthly high of 45.8 degrees back in 2005.

Duty forecaster with the Bureau of Meteorology, Richard Russell was concise with his summation of the weather over the weekend.

“It’ll be pretty damn hot,” he said.

It’s not all bad news though, local ice creamery Jilarty Gelato Bar and Café is prepared to dish out their homemade ice cream by the bucketload.

Staff member Glenda Patty said that sales definitely increase on warmer days and they expect to be flat stick over the weekend.

“Ice cream is a great way to beat the heat and we welcome everyone to come down and cool off,” she said.

“Just about everyone loves ice cream, and the heat is a great reason to treat the whole family.”
