Bright future for Bannerton

JOBS, sustainability and most importantly energy — that’s what the Bannerton Solar Project 1 is aiming for.

Last week Syncline Energy’s Bannerton-based solar farm was shortlisted by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), which would inject the project with a share in $100 million offered for companies changing the face of renewable energy.

Due to start construction in late 2016 the project promises to bring new industry into the northern Mallee.

The proposed 50 megawatt farm will sport 93,000 solar panels, according to the managing director of Syncline Energy, Phil Galloway.

“Production from the solar farm would be enough to power 14,000 homes and void 90,000 tonnes of C02 per year — that’s a huge amount of avoided greenhouse gas,” Mr Galloway said.

“In terms of jobs, it’s about 150 local jobs during construction and ongoing there would be something like 20 jobs for operations and maintenance.”
