Clubroom dream one step closer

WOORINEN Football Netball Club has updated its players and supporters on the latest plans for their new clubroom facilities, revealing designs for a black and yellow façade.

The club has needed to rebuild after a devastating fire burned down its old clubrooms at Woorinen Recreation Reserve last August.

A temporary shed facility has been installed in the meantime, having been used by the Woorinen Cricket Club throughout the current Swan Hill and District Cricket Association season.

At an open meeting at The Commercial Hotel on Friday night, the club’s Redevelopment Committee presented club faithful with the latest draft concept plans for the proposed new clubrooms.

Committee member Grant Jones said the blueprints were the third instalment of drafting (version 1.3), and included provisions for change facilities, a toilet and shower, unisex umpire facilities and a social room.

The building was shown to be elevated 600mm so patrons could view the football ground over spectators in front, with the front providing access to a bar and canteen (separated so children won’t have access to the bar) and the game-day secretary’s office.

It was also planned to have a modern feel to it, with air-conditioning and a high energy rating (with solar panels and a rainwater gutter on the roof).

Most striking, however, were designs for a black-painted façade, with yellow stripes running across it — a nod to the club’s colours and strip.

“The look of building to me says that’s home,” Jones said.

“When people come and play at Woorinen, they’ll know they’re playing at Woorinen with that black and yellow on the clubrooms.”

Jones said the committee hoped to have plans finalised by the end of February, with construction to start in June and to finish by the start of the next cricket season.

However, it was still seeking funding from a number of avenues, including fundraisers, council and grant programs, as the club was still $300,000 to $350,000 away from the amount of funds needed.

“We are still going to build it, no matter what,” Jones said.
