LIFE is measured in memories and for the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery, memories are at the heart of tonight’s event celebrating 50 years.
From modest beginnings on the Paddle Steamer Gem to its current location, the gallery has grown to become a critical cultural institution for both visitors and the local community.
In celebration of the milestone, a collection of works, including photographs and documents, from the past 50 years will be showcased when the exhibition “50” is unveiled tonight.
Margaret Treseder was a member of the Art Associates Inc — a committee established in 1982 which pushed for development of the gallery and raised significant funds to do so.
The Associates disbanded around 10 years ago but Ms Treseder still possesses a great appreciation for the gallery down at Horseshoe Bend, a place she says has played a huge part in her life.
“It’s changed enormously and developed into an Australian recognised contemporary gallery,” she said.
“Swan Hill would be worse off without it.”
