No need for communication breakdown

SWAN Hill received a visit from speech pathology experts from Melbourne last Friday who brought with them a host of non-electronic communication aids (NECAS) to assist those in the region who have difficulty with communication.

Not-for-profit disability support group Scope ran the program and Swan Hill speech pathologist Sharon Champion was pleased that Swan Hill was selected as one of four regional sites to be visited this year by Scope.

NECAS coordinator, Clara Navaretti, said the purpose of the visit was to ensure residents are aware of the many aids that are free and available to adults who experience communication difficulties.

“We had noticed a reduction in requests for support from Swan Hill last year so decided that a trip to the area to raise awareness would be beneficial,” she said.

“We have a range of representatives from the community services sector here today including the Department of Human Services housing sector, schools and Bendigo Health.”
