ROBINVALE was a melange of foods, colours and sounds on Saturday as the local Vietnamese community led the town’s Lunar New Year celebrations.
It was the second year the Lunar New Year festivities were held in Robinvale after the success of last year’s event, which was considered to have united the town’s melting pot of ethnicities.
Celebrated by cultures from all across Asia, the Lunar New Year marks the first day of the lunar calendar — coordinated by the cycles of the moon rather than the earth’s solar orbit — and this year’s heralded in the Year of the Monkey.
Hundreds of people turned up to the event, run in conjunction with the monthly farmers’ market held by the Rotary Club of Robinvale Euston.
Trang Le, the mastermind behind the festival, said the Vietnamese community was proud to hold the event and introduce people to their culture.
