AFTER a year of campaigning, the lights at the showgrounds are finally on and shining bright, ready for this year’s CMFNL season, and Friday night football.
Funded by a local council initiative, Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh and AFL Victoria, the $500,000 show stoppers will be in action in the coming weeks.
“Wind the clock back a couple of years, a grant was received from AFL Victoria with local government and the state government support,” Alistair Ward, president of Swan Hill Football Netball Club said.
“Peter Walsh was the local member and he was instrumental in helping secure the funding.”
The lights will be turned on in the coming weeks — Mr Ward predicts early March, depending on council and the contractors.
Mr Walsh believes that the lights are the next step in establishing Swan Hill as a premiere ground, which opens the town and the club up to a plethora of opportunities.
