A SLINGING match has broken out between Buloke Shire Council and local residents following the cancellation of Maitreya Festival.
According to the shire unscrupulous behaviour is the root of the cancellation of this year’s festival at Wooronook Lakes, however locals have hit back saying that council has embargoed paperwork, halting the application process.
The festival received a notice to deny a planning permit last week, but was set to take place over the Labor Day weekend in March and by last year’s measure would have attracted 7000 punters and injected around $2 million into the nearby drought-affected Charlton community.
“On January 14 a letter was written saying there was more information needed which takes 28 days, therefore it was impossible to meet,” Charlton local Kirk Boyle informed The Guardian yesterday.
