Teacher showdown

THERE’S a battle emerging at Swan Hill North Primary School and principal Campbell McKay is right in the thick of it.

According to school council president Brenden Sutton, Mr McKay fancies himself as quite an athlete and has entered into the Swan Hill Triathlon being held at Riverside Park on February 28.

Despite Mr McKay having competed in triathlons for over 20 years, three very brave challengers have thrown down the gauntlet to him.

Swan Hill North Primary School teachers, Patrick Noonan and Mark Corrie have teamed up with Brenden Sutton in a battle that will go right down to the finish line. And the catch is; Mr McKay will complete the three legs of the course alone while the other three will work as a team competing in one leg each.

Mr McKay said he was pretty confident and with tongue in cheek said he had been down to the local pool to watch Mr Sutton train.

“He has swam at state level back in 95 but that was a long time ago,” Mr McKay said.

“I saw him after he did his first 400 training session and it wasn’t pretty.

“When he got out of the pool he had to lie down and so I wasn’t too worried. I then employed my first tactic and deliberately swam slowly so he thought I couldn’t swim,”
