TALENTED netballers are set to be scouted by coaches with the Central Murray Football Netball League (CMFNL) expected to announce a new academy in the near future.
The academy will put the best young talent under the microscope from this year, in a bid to improve the standard of the code and players in the region for the future.
The Guardian understands talks are underway with potential coaches as final touches are being put on the concept. It is unclear what age group will be targeted for the academy but CMFNL regional operations manager David Alderuccio said the talent pool would benefit from the new concept.
“This is a good chance to run a program outside of club commitments to develop and provide them with the tools to become bigger and better,” he said.
“We are trying to run the program in 2016 … we will be able to set those girls up for the Murray representative team and other academies that come up.
“We feel we have a lot of talent in our league and they deserve a chance to be recognised.”
More specific details will be announced in the coming weeks but it is expected that 20 to 30 players will be guided by established head coaches who will provide them with academy- style coaching away from their clubs.
