A NEW transfer station aimed at making waste disposal easier and more efficient has been officially opened at the Swan Hill Landfill.
The transfer station featured four large skip bin bays and hardstand area, new safety fencing and gates, retaining walls and improved road infrastructure.
A new weighbridge office has also been constructed, as well upgrades to the entrance road and landscaping works.
The unveiling of the station on Monday was attended by Swan Hill Mayor Les McPhee and the director of Sustainability Victoria’s waste and resource recovery programs, Jenny Pickles, who together threw the first rubbish bag into the skip.
Cr McPhee said the new transfer station was another great step in the continued efforts of diverting recyclable waste from the landfill.
