IN a massive coup for rural cricket in the Mallee, the 2015 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup trophy will visit the region as part of Cricket Victoria’s drought assistance program. 

The small drought-affected town of Tempy — located around 120km west of Swan Hill in Yarriambiack Shire — will host the trophy as its cricket side, the Tempy Tigers, takes on arch-rivals Ouyen Rams in the last round of the Red Cliffs Cricket Association home-and-away season tomorrow.

Cricket Victoria will host junior cricket clinics in the morning, while Victorian Bushrangers and Melbourne Renegades player Ryan Sidebottom and the Renegades’ mascot, Sledge, will also be in attendance.

Cricket Victoria’s Mallee Murray regional cricket manager, Tom Huf, said the organisation was making the tour after bringing the trophy to Cohuna last weekend, in support the region’s drought-affected cricketing communities.
