IN what has been described as a “major blow” for the Wycheproof community, national banking chain ANZ has decided to close its Wycheproof branch due to a reduction in customer numbers.
An ANZ spokesman told The Guardian the bank was writing to local customers to let them know about the closure, which was to be complete by June 1.
“We conducted a detailed review of our Wycheproof branch and found there had been a significant drop in the number of customers using it in recent years,” he said.
“At the same time, there has been an increase in customers using digital banking such as our mobile phone banking app, goMoney.”
Janet Miller, the president of local forum group Wycheproof VISION, described the closure as a major blow for the community.
A community meeting to discuss the closure will be held at 7pm next Tuesday (March 22) at the Senior Citizens Rooms, Broadway, as part of Wycheproof VISION’s monthly meeting.
