WAKOOL Shire Council has called on the local state MP, Adrian Piccoli, to meet with it to discuss his support for the council’s proposed amalgamation with Murray Shire.
Mr Piccoli has in the past said the merger, which was being imposed on both Wakool and Murray shires by the NSW State Government, would be a good thing for both communities.
“There’s going to be a $10 million infrastructure grant across those two councils. That is a huge investment,” he told The Guardian back in January.
“Communities will be represented by a much more powerful voice when they’re combined rather than when they’re separate.”
At the shire’s March business meeting last week, Mayor Neil Gorey used his mayoral minute to urge the state MP to meet up and discuss the proposed merger.
“Council [calls] upon Adrian Piccoli MP to meet with Wakool Shire Council to discuss the basis of his claims regarding the supposed benefits of the proposed merger of Murray Shire with Wakool Shire who was considered Fit to remain a stand-alone council,” he said.
