A HAUL of premierships won by Nyah district sporting clubs has provided a significant morale boost for the Nyah and Nyah West communities.
Last weekend, the Nyah District Bowling Club won the first and third division titles in the Murray Valley Bowls Division. The Nyah District Cricket Club also won the Swan Hill and District Cricket Association A Grade and B Grade flags.
The weekend before, the Nyah West Tennis Club won the Nyah District Tennis Association juniors pennant, while two of its senior sides battled it out in the seniors grand final.
Nyah District Bowling Club greens keeper and chairman of selectors Matt O’Bree said the local community was over the moon with the results.
“It’s just a sensational effort all round, because the bowling club’s only got 28 male members and 24 of them were in a grand final,” Mr O’Bree said.
“The cricket club had all their teams in their grand finals, so as a whole for the bowls to get both their premierships it’s just great.
“I think the biggest thing out of all of it is both sporting bodies are struggling to maintain regular players, so it’s just going to have a major impact on going forward.”
