RESIDENTS in Swan Hill at risk of eye disease will benefit from a successful health promotion program that aims to improve eye health and prevent vision loss.
At a launch in Dandenong yesterday, the Victorian Health Minister Jill Hennessy said the Vision 2020 Initiative would be rolled out to a further four Victorian local government areas following the success of the Vision Initiative Pilot Projects in 2012-2015.
The program will be rolled out in Swan Hill, Campaspe, Greater Dandenong and Brimbank.
CEO of Vison 2020 Australia Jennifer Gersbeck said Swan Hill residents have been identified as having an increased risk of blindness and vision loss due to a high proportion of people in the area living with risk factors associated with eye conditions.
She said that Swan Hill residents were jeopardising their sight according to figures which show one in four adults have never had an eye test.
