Sleeping Giant dreaming of top-tier captaincy

A GIANT of local football will step out with the Greater Western Sydney squad in a bid to be selected for the Under 18 New South Wales team this weekend in Canberra.

Young Jordyn Jolliffe, 15, will lace her boots up with the AFL club’s academy side against their top grade rivals, the Sydney Swans.

Already the youngster has a decorated football and netball career in the Mallee and is looking to be one of the most exciting professional prospects in the region as she pushes for inclusion in the women’s AFL competition over the next few years.

Balranald’s Jordyn began playing footy when she was in under 11s before she was not allowed to take the field with the boys when she was 13.

After a brief absence, she would return to the oval with the Woorinen women’s side playing in the Bendigo league last year.

Now training with the Bendigo Pioneers once a week, the talented junior will head to Wagga Wagga to take part in 60 per cent of the Giants’ training camps across the next few seasons to improve her game.
