A YAMAGATA visitor who came to Australia as an exchange program leader in 2014 has returned to Swan Hill to visit her host family.
Ayane Yamada’s return is evidence of the enduring relationships that are formed through the exchange program, which is in its 36th year.
Ms Yamada was hosted by Swan Hill resident Angela Morris and her family for eight days as part of the biennial sister city exchange program.
She was a young English teacher in her first year when she was selected to accompany Japanese students on their trip to Swan Hill.
“I love teaching and I love English but I do not always enjoy the studying so much,” Ms Yamada said with a laugh.
“I wanted to make English a lot more fun for the students to learn in Japan.”
