THE Balranald chapter of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) has chosen to fold on account of dwindling membership numbers.
The group met monthly in a room adjoining the Balranald Library owned by the Balranald Shire Council and will look to officially dissolve at the end of next month.
Balranald CWA member of more than 40 years Dawn Conway said the local branch had weighed up whether to close temporarily in the hopes of attracting more members in the future.
However, Ms Conway said the handful of remaining members had decided it was not a viable option.
“We discussed it pretty strongly… having a six month recession (period),” Ms Conway said.
“In the foreseeable future I couldn’t see it happen here.
“We’ve tried and tried, we’ve sat in the street handing out pamphlets, had information days and afternoon teas.
“In the earlier days we had up to 20 members but over the years it’s dwindled down.”
