Car bogged after GPS slip-up

A SWAN Hill driver got more than she bargained for on Friday afternoon after GPS instructions led her down the side of a muddy embankment.

En route to Tower Hill, the lady’s satellite navigation system instructed her to drive to the end of Thurla Street and along an access track connecting Stradbroke Avenue and Murlong Street.

It soon became clear the track was not intended for cars and, with the track slippery from recent rainfall, her vehicle slid down the side of the embankment into a fence.

Ken Higgins from Swan Hill Towing said it was a case of technology going astray.

“This is the perils of following (a GPS device), especially on a wet day,” he said.

“She said it showed (the track) to be the road.”

The driver walked away from the incident unharmed and Mr Higgins said the car was rescued without a scratch.
