A PHILANTHROPIC initiative born from a community event has provided much-needed rest and respite to locals with cancer diagnoses.
With the $12,000 raised by the Swan Hill Colour Your Run, 18 local cancer patients each received a voucher for four nights accommodation for two people at a top Echuca spa resort — the last of which was used this month.
The SuniTAFE students who organised the fun run chose local cancer support group Women Touched By Cancer (WTBC) to distribute the funds.
WTBC president Lorna Hosking said Daylesford was originally suggested as a destination, but because many of the recipients were still undergoing treatment, Echuca was settled on due to its proximity to Swan Hill.
Ms Hosking said the trip acted as a much-needed distraction.
