SOME of Swan Hill’s most respected coaches and clubs will receive funding from the government to support them in their sporting lives.
Member for Northern Victoria Steve Herbert announced earlier this week the Andrews Government had decided to award $6,000 to “outstanding individuals and five sporting clubs from the Murray Plains area”.
To help cut the costs of her Northern Victoria Academy Zone coach training costs, Swan Hill Football Netball Club coach Madeleine Nalder will receive $750, while Shirley Swan (pictured) , who has been coach of the Nyah Two Bays Swan Hill Amateur Swimming Club for 38 years, will receive $750 to offset travel costs to tournaments.
Also sharing the grant will be Kyabram Football Netball Club, the Meringur Football Netball Club, the Northern Zone Pony Club Association of Victoria, the Swan Hill Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and the Swan Hill Pony Club.
The Guardian spoke to Swan who said she was honoured to receive the grant for the second time.
“I do about 25,000km a year for the swimming events, I travel all around the place,” she said.
“I go to Melbourne, Bendigo, Shepparton, Echuca and, if I go to nationals, I head to Adelaide.
“This funding will help me for the last year and as well as right now.”
