WHILE recent rainfall has provided a much-needed boost for dry sub soils across the region, farmers continue to remain “cautiously optimistic” with the sowing season well underway.
Lipps agronomist Matt Gready said the region’s recent rainfall had lifted everyone’s spirits but said farmers would be banking on a wet winter and spring, coming off the back of two tough years.
“The overall sentiment is cautiously optimistic,” Mr Gready said, noting the last two years had been particularly difficult, placing financial stress on many farms.
“Coupled with less than positive grain prices, farmers are erring on the side of caution and conservatism.”
However, Mr Gready said the majority of farmers remained optimistic but had taken a conservative approach in relation to their 2016 cropping programs.
